Our Wedding Day Continued

There’s something so surreal about waking up on the morning of your wedding day. I felt the nerves immediately—like butterflies doing motocross laps in my stomach. My soon-to-be husband, on the other hand, didn’t seem fazed at all. If he was nervous, he didn’t let it show, and honestly, that calmed me. I wanted us to soak in the day without any pressure, just as we are—imperfect, simple, and real.
We decided to get ready together in our cozy little Airbnb. It was just the two of us, no hustle and bustle, no crowds or distractions—just the calm, intimate space we’d chosen to start this incredible day. Before we started getting dressed, I showed him a video I had made—a little recap of the days leading up to our wedding. I’ll admit, it didn’t quite get the reaction I had dreamed of (isn’t that always the case with creative things?), but I knew he loved it deep down. Maybe he was nervous after all.
I had the camera rolling as we started getting ready. When it was time for me to grab my dress, he walked up to the camera with a cheeky grin and said, “Woah, she looks amazingly beautiful, doesn’t she?” Of course, he threw in a few more colorful comments that I won’t repeat here, but they made me laugh. That moment is one of my favorites. Sometimes I catch myself rewatching the video just to hear his voice and see the way he looked at me.
He helped me into my dress, and everything began to feel real. This is it, I thought. I’m about to marry him. There was something so special about doing this together—helping each other get ready for what would be the biggest moment of our lives. It felt so perfectly us.
And while it was just the two of us, we knew we weren’t alone. We carried with us the love and blessings of the people who mattered most—our family, our close friends, and those who supported us even from afar. Knowing they were cheering us on in spirit made it all the more meaningful. This moment wasn’t just about us; it was about everyone who had poured into our lives to bring us to this point.
We hopped in the truck and headed toward Falling Rock. As we got closer, the nerves really kicked in. I was sweating so much I had to stick tissues under my arms (don’t judge me). If you know me, you know I’m always early. Early is on time. On time is late. And late? Don’t even bother. So naturally, we arrived well ahead of schedule.
While we waited, my soon-to-be husband pulled out his phone and started streaming the motocross race we were missing to, you know, get married. At first, I couldn’t believe it, but then I realized it was the perfect distraction. The familiar sounds of engines and announcers somehow calmed my nerves. Looking back, it’s such an “us” thing to do, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
When the wedding planners showed up, my heart began to race. He looked at me, completely unfazed, and said, “Ready to go do this thing?” I laughed, and then we did what we always do when life gets big—we prayed.
A Prayer for Marriage
God, thank You for the gift of marriage. We ask for Your guidance in every season, the strength to love selflessly, and the wisdom to always turn to You. Help every couple to find joy in the little moments, patience in the hard ones, and peace in knowing You are at the center of it all. Bless every marriage, old and new, with Your love. Amen.
And yes…. I’m going to make you wait just a bit more
Love,
Chelsea
